Why Legal English Matters
Legal English Matters explains legal topics that are relevant to people around the world.
This space is for people from all walks of life as well as legal professionals, without distinction.
The website was created in response to a gap in the market (information field) I have observed throughout my legal career. People are often told what the law requires of them, but not always what rights the law gives them. This imbalance can make the law feel distant and hard to understand. Legal English Matters focuses on making legal information clear and accessible.
This website does not provide legal advice. Its purpose is to inform and increase legal awareness, helping people better understand the law and legal concepts that arise in everyday situations.
I am Anne Gurski, a practising international lawyer with experience across public and private law. My background includes work in law firms, Legal Aid, legal translation, and legal consulting.
Alongside my legal practice, I have experience in Legal English education, including work in an international academic setting. I develop Legal English materials for learning and professional contexts. I am TEFL-certified and have worked in Legal English education since 2021.
Legal English Matters reflects a space I have long wanted to create to share clear and accessible legal information through Legal English.
So, welcome to my website, because understanding the law shouldn’t be this hard.
